Not all books can grab their audiences and make them sit still in a place for long, especially kids. But this story how to catch a leprechaun has made my kid stay fixed on her couch for a long time, turning pages over and over to go over every details. How to Catch a Leprechaun by Adam Wallace is a witty picture book highlighting how a child sets out to capture a Leprechaun.
What sets this book apart is its imaginative take on how to catch a leprechaun. The author’s creativity shines through as he provides young readers with an array of clever and comical traps, enticing them to use their imaginations and think outside the box. The book encourages children to embrace their own creativity and problem-solving skills as they design their own leprechaun-catching contraptions.
Beyond its entertainment value, How to Catch a Leprechaun also offers subtle lessons about persistence, teamwork, and the importance of being resourceful. As the children in the story devise their elaborate traps, they learn the value of collaboration and adaptability, reminding readers that success often comes from working together and thinking creatively.
My kid has just learned to read and this has been absolutely adorable read for her. The sentences were short with easy words (as easy as it can be), and the colorful pages and funky fonts made it a keeper. The credit largely goes to Andy Elkerton, the illustrator that turned this cute story in to an absolute master piece. My kid found the illustrations fantastic that made the story engaging. And it was a fun exercise for her to find out the leprechaun in each pages. I think it is safe to say it will find its place right beside ‘Room on the Broom’ and ‘Oi Dog (Get off the Frog)’ story.
